Tammy Murphy attended Shirley Chisholm Award Luncheon 2017 as a surrogate for Phil Murphy

On April 22, 2017 at the Valley Regency in Clifton, New Jersey Tammy Murphy filled in for her husband Phil Murphy at the Shirley Chisholm Awards Luncheon.

Phil Murphy strongly believe in equal pay for equal work Phil Murphy state that "at the state level our data of minority and woman owned business participation is embarrassing compare to any absolute or relative benchmark" he plans to change that when he become the governor of New Jersey.

Present in the room were a number of notable politicians and shining women that embodied the spirit of Shirley Chisholm from several communities.

Assemblywoman, Speaker Emeritus Sheila Y. Oliver opened up the awards with a famous quote by the first woman Democratic nominee for President Shirley Chisholm saying, “A woman is like a teabag, you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” Many of the women awarded and spoke were ones who were ahead of the curve on politicians like Kim Nesbid Good, had given their time and energy to their community like Mildred Hicks Harris and Beverly A. Bussey. The room and awardees was filled with strength and resilience of women who fought in order to get to their current place of success and improve their communities.

Africans for Phil murphy also attended this event in support of Phil Murphy.
